Jellyfin Prerolls and Jellyfin Media Player: Full Tutorial 2023

Jellyfin offers a feature called Intros which is similar to Emby Cinema and works in the same way. Users have the option to choose if they want Intros to play before movies or shows. This feature is completely free and has a seamless implementation. Unlike Plex, Jellyfin starts the movie instantly without any lagging between the preroll and the beginning of the movie. Users can also get customized videos with their name or their home server’s name.

To set up Intros, users need to download the Jellyfin Intros Plugin from the given link and navigate to their plugins folder. The location of the plugins folder may vary depending on the Windows install or for Linux users, the plugins folder is situated at var/lib/jellyfin/plugins/. Users then need to paste the Intros folder in the plugins folder and ensure that the plugin is inside a folder in the plugins directory. After starting or restarting their Jellyfin server, users can see the plugin inside their dashboard.

Users can proceed to configure their source for the prerolls they want by choosing either a Local Folder or Vimeo videos as a source. Only one can be selected at a time. In the case of a Local Folder, users need to choose a file or a folder with multiple files and paste its path in the box, making sure that Jellyfin has the necessary permissions to access it. For Vimeo, users can add multiple Vimeo IDs separated by a comma, and these may take some time to load the first time they are played. After that, they will be cached locally to avoid lagging.

After completing these steps, users can now see their desired prerolls before each movie or video they have in Jellyfin.
